Instead, the arrogant footballer, 30, went into a jealous rage at Cheryl after hearing about her recent trip to Cannes with her manager Will.i.am.
'Ash heard about her cosying up to Will and hit the roof,' says a source.
‘It was posted on Will's personal Twitter account, which immediately made Ashley think Cheryl was trying to make a fool of him.
'So he sent her a text asking what was going on and then sent another saying: "What are you trying to do to me?" He didn't stop trying to get hold of her.'
